Foundation Center Cooperating Collection
The
White Plains Public Library is one of 200 U.S. libraries with a Foundation
Center Cooperating Collection. This free information center includes core
Foundation Center publications plus other materials useful to grantseekers,
funders, and donors. Many print resources are available for both in-library use
and loan.
Our librarians can assist you in person at the Reference Desk, by phone (914)
422-1480 or online.
Tip for grantseekers: Grantmakers typically fund nonprofit, tax-exempt
organizations whose purposes are charitable, educational, scientific,
religious, literary or cultural. Most foundations do not make grants to
individuals or for-profit organizations.

Foundation annual reports
990-PF : Filed annually with the IRS by every foundation and the
only source of data on grants made by many small foundations. Most foundations
do not issue annual reports or have websites.
990-PFs for over 60,000 private foundations are available free online from
the Foundation Center's Web Site <www.fdncenter.org>
through a partnership with Grantsmart. At the Foundation Center's home page,
click on "Finding Funders: 990-PF Search." Tax returns are provided as
Adobe PDFs. Patrons may also obtain 990-PFs from the Foundation Center
Library, Manhattan (79 Fifth Avenue [between 15th and 16th St.], 2nd Floor),
directly by mail from the IRS (takes 4 to 6 weeks), or by contacting a
foundation directly. Copies of the required IRS Form 4056A are available from
the Reference Desk or the IRS web site; patrons must fill out and mail in the
form and are responsible for paying fees directly to the IRS for this service.
The New York/New Jersey Area Common Application Form 90-PF helps
nonprofit organizations in the NY/NJ area save time in the grant application
process. Copies are available at the Reference Desk or at <http://www.nyrag.org/usr_doc/New_York_New_Jersey_common_application_form_09-30-05.pdf>
