City of White Plains Capital Project
White Plains Public Library - Public Restroom Renovation - 1st Floor Lobby
Estimated Duration of Project: August 12,
2009 - November 20, 2009
What is being done?
Existing public restrooms will be demolished and replaced. The new facilities
will be ADA compliant, easier to maintain and more appealing for the thousands
of people each week that use them.
What toilet facilities are available for adults while this work
takes place?
Four temporary toilet facilities, two for men, two for women, are available
outside the Library's front door for the duration of the project.
Why is this City Capital Project taking place now?
This project has been listed in the City of White Plains Capital Program for
many years. The City's Capital Program is established annually by the Common
Council based on recommendations by the Capital Projects Board. The Library does
not decide what will get done or when.
Currently all projects listed for the Library are maintenance
related. While the Library submits the required paperwork on them, maintenance
recommendations are planned, prioritized and managed by the Department of Public
Works.
Couldn't funding for this project have been used instead to
avoid cuts to library hours, staffing or new book purchasing ?
No, the Library's Operating Budget and the City's Capital Budget are separate.
The Library cannot access and does not control funds in the City's Capital
Budget.
